To convert Muslims, who accepted reason, the church now sought mathematics, connecting it to Christian doctrine by changing both. That led to a subtle religious bias in mathematics, and to its racist history. This book is for the layperson concerned that both biases are still being thrust upon schoolchildren today.

This narrative is a perfect example of how even though facts are out in the public, we wont usually connect the dots to realize the lies peddled to us by organized cults. It would have taken immense effort to collect all the facts mentioned in the book. Connecting the dots is the easiest thing.

A systematic annihilation of the myth "most of secular scientific knowledge has originated in Greece". It is the single biggest crime committed against human psych by current secular educators. Many of us would have had a feeling that it is a myth. We can even see the means and opportunity of the church to carry out such a crime through its "world class" universities. After all, even during the age of Internet, authorities get away with lying for several years before truth is uncovered. So it must be very easy in medieval times. The challenge is not finding the means and opportunity. The challenge is finding a motive. You can't really charge them guilty without it. This book provides exactly that, the motive: Why is it necessary for a systematic myth building about origin of knowledge in Greece? What is the necessity for the church(priests to be precise) to start such a myth?

This book is more enlightening to an honest Christian who believes in the doctrine of love but is shocked by doctrine of sin used by Church throughout history to oppress people.

In spirit of following the author's advice in the epilogue, the best way to read the book is to check every fact mentioned by the author after each chapter:
As for those young people who are victims of these biases, get rid of those biases even if they are forced on you by your parents and teachers. A simple way to do so is to ask questions. If the answers sound like story-telling, used to preserve lies, you know what trick is at work. Remember, they can’t capture your mind without your consent. Don’t give that consent: keep asking questions, and see how those stories fall apart.

Most of the characters neatly fit stereotypes common to such settings-the happy nuclear family, loyal best friend, mysterious carnival fortune-teller, and more. While Gib is the only fully developed character, the unique and interesting plot featuring a practical look at the possibilities and results of planned time travel make up for the otherwise shallow characterizations. As the story gathers speed, suspense builds to a surprising and satisfying conclusion with room for more than one sequel. The book's themes and plot twists take it beyond the conventional, resulting in a delightfully thought-provoking science-fiction story.

Etchemendy's intriguing fantasy handles some powerful, big questions about life, the universe, and everything in it. Gib begins the tale throwing spitballs in math class with his science lab partner, Rainy. Rainy is supposed to baby-sit Roxy, Gib's spirited little sister, while Gib's parents go dancing and Gib and his best friend, Ash, go to the carnival on a long-planned excursion. But things go wrong, and Gib finds himself in the woods near his house with a strange, yet oddly familiar old man who smells like lightning. The man hands him an "unner," a rather badly made machine that can send Gib back in time. Gib thinks this is a great idea, especially after the trip to the carnival goes horribly wrong. In trying to right matters, Gib tackles free will, memory, the bending of time, and contradictory impulses in a way that will sound fairly logical to middle-schoolers. For children not quite old enough for Norma Howe's Adventures of Blue Avenger (1999), this book deftly handles some eternal philosophical questions. GraceAnne A. DeCandido

Etchemendy (Crystal City, not reviewed) mixes quick action and long thoughts in this tale of a lad who discovers that changing the past is a tricky business. When a gimpy old man, smelling of ozone, pops up from nowhere and hands him a palm-sized time machine, Gib Finney is understandably dazzled by the possibilities. But his excitement changes to anguish when he loops back in time to prevent first his little sister, then her sitter, from being run down by a truck, and learns that there’s a momentum to events that is hard to divert. Gib’s increasing desperation, as he tries to figure out how to head off what he knows is about to happen, injects suspense into the story, and his misadventures with the “unner” prompt insights into how minor incidents or casual choices often have far-reaching, unpredictable consequences. In the end, he does manage to keep anyone else from being hurt, at the cost of having his own leg crushed (readers will have twigged to the mysterious old man’s identity long before this) and the “unner” suffers the same fate. This hangs together better than William Sleator’s similarly premised Rewind (1999), but readers who assume from the cover illustration that it's a comedy are in for a shock. A Fantastic Story!

This is a fantastic book! I couldn't stop reading until I finished it. Ms. Etchemendy does a fantastic job keeping the reader asking questions. As a fourth grade teacher, I can't wait to read it to my students. I know they'll love it too. I hope Ms. Etchemendy will continue to write about the further adventures of Gib. He's a great character!

I loved this book! It explores fascinating questions, like what would happen if we *could* go back just a little bit in time and undo a mistake, while staying fast-paced and exciting. The characters- narrator Gib Finney, his sister, Roxy, and friend, Ash are all likable and unique. I had a hard time putting it down!

It is a Treasure

I absolutely loved Highland Treasure by Mary McCall. It is an amazing book, with tons of LOL moments and few crying my heart out passages. This is more than just a Highland romance. It's a story of vengeance and redemption.

Let's talk about our H and h....

Hope, all I can say is wow! She was bloody awesome. She risked her life to save a boy she didn't know and bring a clan that hated her, their much needed Justice. She had a miserable life. A sadistically abusive father, total isolation, and lack of real home all molded Hope into a warrior woman. She also had a little gift, but I will let you discover what it is on your own.

Leonce is an awesome Highland hero. He is laird of the Clan McPherson, after his father and brothers were butchered by Hope's father. He wanted justice for his clan, but he was not willing to use a vulnerable woman as his tool. Leonce was wonderful man, but he could also be hard headed and had a quick temper. He's my favorite kind of alpha male. He was a proud man, devoted father, but above all else, he was Hope's Lion.

The story was fast paced, exciting, and original. The original part is what earned Highland Treasure a place on coveted place on my five star wall. I love historical romances, but I often feel as if I am reading the same story over and over. This book was definitely a breath of fresh air.

This book was smoking!!! The sex was hot, without being overly erotic. There was a lot of sex; even more, talk of sex. But, I never felt like the author was relying on sex to make story. It was just an added bonus.

No book is perfect, and Highland Treasure does have its flaws. Some of the dialogue was a bit over the top, and the games Leonce and Hope played seemed a tad childish. These things may turn some readers off, but I have to wonder if the book would have been as good without these "flaws"?

Would I recommend this book? Heck Yeah!

Love the characters and hated saying goodbye to them!

I loved this book. I loved the hero, the heroine, the animals, the magic, the friends, the humor, and most of all the endearingly sweet love story. It has everything you could want in a epic love story. Hope, the heroine was funny, sweet, and so special that I wanted to become her best friend. Leonce the hero was so protective and loving; he's everything a hero should be. The other characters worm their way into your heart with ease especially Bertie and Diablo (who is a horse BTW). I have this book on kindle and ordered it on paperback because I loved it so much. I couldn't stand to say goodbye to these characters! I've read this story over and over again along with her other two books. She is now counted among my most favorite historical authors which include the likes of Judith McNaught and Julie Garwood. There are some grammar and editing problems but they weren't really enough for me to care about. I'm telling you have to try read this book! Its my favorite out of all of them. I now have my sister hooked on this author and she has read all of her books as well. Her and I both CAN NOT WAIT for her next book. This story will be in my forever library and not many books make it there. ;) Thank you Mary for writing such a special story. If anyone hasn't tried this author, please do so...you will not regret it!!

I really enjoyed this book. The female character was strong and fiesty. The lead male character was fierce but not brutal. The other two books are also really good even if I read them out of order, lol. i just want to say one thing. Mary McCall needs to get on the ball. I'm a fan and am looking forward to another great book.

Our Test Became Our Testimony-This Book Could Change Your Life

Little did my wife and I know when we connected with our friend Mark Batterson last October that years of droughts we were going through with our son would finally come to an end. When we begin to practice drawing our circle around our son with Autism and everyday speaking bold prayers, the tide begin to change. This book will teach you not to pray "Just get by prayers" but to come boldly to the throne of grace and pray BIG prayers because we serve a BIG GOD. Just like how Mark talked about Honi in his book "The Circle Maker" who became a "legend" because as his people were going through a year long drought Honi began to draw his circle and pray three bold prayers. Through those prayers the year long drought ended and Honi became a "legend" that we are talking about thousands of years later. I believe when you begin to draw your circle around your family, pray bold prayers, new legends are going to be born through your test becoming a testimony. You will come out of the drought. If God can do it for my family He can do it for yours. This book can change your life.

Good concept, bad delivery

I appreciate the concept of this book, that parents need to intentionally enter into a life of prayer for their children, to cover their lives with that prayer and "circle" them. So, to that extent, this is a good book to remind us as that.

However, the presentation of the concept, while peppered with "You need to make sure you're praying God's will, not your will" admonitions, still came across strongly as "If you pray for it, it will happen". The stories and examples told came across as a matter of all that needed to happen for one daughter to gain self-confidence, for a son to have a miraculous healing, for the children to have good morals at school and at home, is simply for the parents to pray fervently, frequently, and earnestly.

But what I saw in all the stories was a different dynamic. While the book presented prayer as some way of making God do the things that needed to be done, instead what I heard were stories of parents who actually spent time discipling their children with prayer, reading scripture with them, modeling a life centered around God and God's purposes, and simply parents actually being parents and spending quality time discipling their children. Prayer is part of that, but not as some formulaic means to a miraculous end, but as a connection between the parents and God which leads to a changed life on the part of the parents. That changed life ends up positively influencing the children. So, yes, the prayer was answered... but not through a "magical" influence, but because God made the parents the instruments of the answer.

Don't get me wrong, I know prayer does miraculous things. I have a story in mind right now of a two-year-old little girl with a serious head injury who has made an amazing recovery. That was certainly beyond just the parents being changed. But while the praying was happening for that little girl, the parents WERE being changed by the outpouring of prayer and support by their community, including very tangible and practical activities that the community did in order to support the family. So, while the girl received what amounts to a miraculous healing, the parents and their faith community experienced a deeper appreciation for Christian community, a greater sense of peace of God being in control, and a deeper reliance on God's promises. That is what happened with that prayer.

So, while there are some good practical tips here as to ways of praying, I see them as tips more on how to incorporate prayer in with parenting to make the parents more godly parents than any formula for getting more miraculous answers to prayer.

Better than any live training, an invaluable resource for instructors!

A little about me….I have been a personal trainer and fitness instructor for over 12 years. After working in clubs for 4 years I decided to start my own business 8 years ago. In addition to all of this, I am a mom of 4 kids, ages 13, 10, 7, 6! Reading this book gave me that extra push I needed to NOT go spend even more money on yet another certification. I currently hold certifications for Group Exercise, Personal Training, PiYo (Pilates Yoga Fusion), Group Cycle, Pilates, TurboKick, RIPPED, Hip Hop HUSTLE, and BODYPUMP... YIKES! I have always been known as the “form police” for my personal training and attention to form and detail in all of my group classes as well. Adding Barre to my repertoire just feels so natural now and my clients really love it. This book was INVALUABLE to me. The authors did a great job. I love the youtube videos, everything. I have recommended it to many other instructors and I am working with two instructors now as my apprentices for them to start teaching barre and required them to read this first! Fantastic Resource for Barre Instructors!

I purchased this book a few months ago, because I was interested in learning more about Barre and possibly teaching it in the near future. I recently started teaching Barre at the dance studio I work at and have found this book EXTREMELY helpful. The resources and ideas they offer are priceless The authors offer links to YouTube videos of specific moves and combinations that have proved very useful. Not only that, but they have given you lesson plan ideas and examples of playlists. As a former dancer, current dance teacher, and now Barre instructor this is my go-to book when needing encouragement and ideas. I am so glad I purchased this awesome resource!

I am not a teacher, but love barre and have taken many, many (expensive) classes. I love the exercise form, but am often displeased with the playlists in studio. I bought this book so I could create my own custom classes at home. I love it! A personalized class, indoors or out, with a fantastic playlist every time. Thank you!
