The book is beautifully put together, over 200 high quality color reproductions of works. There's a thoughtful essay for each artist represented in the book, and the opening essay by Helen Molesworth is very interesting as well. Definitely a great book for anyone interested in 1980s American art and politics.

Juicy, full of life, amazing, how-to and inspirational mixed media art book!

I have been looking forward to this book for a long time and it has finally arrived! This art book is more than a how-to; it also provides many inspiring stories and artwork from the author and other contributing artists (including a lot of my favorites like Jesse Reno, Juliette Crane, Lisa Sonora Beam, Judy Wise, Laurie Mika, Orly Avineri, just to name a few--seriously ALL of the artists in this book are very talented and amazing!) The book is the perfect balance of how-to (step-by-step with detailed photos and instructions--I am a visual learner, so this was very important to me) with a lot of fun prompts and assignments sprinkled throughout by the author and the other artists. The stories are all very personal, interesting, inspirational, and will provide you with a lot of insight into the art making process from a technical as well as an almost spiritual perspective. The author has really poured her heart and soul into this book. I feel like I will use this book throughout my own artful journey as it is a book you can return to again and again for ideas and inspiration. The book isn't just about making artwork, it is also about discovering the voice inside of you, the one that will tell your own personal and unique story through the art that you will make. And you will be inspired to do something new and daring even if all you do is just open the book to one random page and absorb the visuals and take in the honest and thoughtful writing on the page.

Discovering your story and your artistry

If you're looking for an art book that will provide some techniques, you won't be disappointed, but that's not primarily what Tracy's book is trying to accomplish. Artists are not primarily technicians, they are story-tellers who use color and line to speak. Tracy has gathered a tribe of artists who together are telling stories that you'll want to attend to slowly so that you can notice your own story emerging. Don't be impatient with what you find here. The stories can't be separated from the art without doing violence to your tender heart.

I received my copy of Paint Mojo when they first began mailing them, but I didn't really begin to dig in until I traveled North to the Boundary Waters area of Minnesota. There, I began savoring every page. And as I turned the pages, and swallowed the color and line and pain and joy, images began to wake up in me. I have never been more prolific as I have been since I began walking with this little companion at the beginning of this week.

Thank you Tracy. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Great book for artists at any level! Even if you don't think you can make art!

Received my book today! I always start a new book by getting a soothing beverage together and find some quiet time to dive in and explore. The book so far is very engaging and I can see it is already a favorite for me. It consists of 9 chapters each with an exercise to do ,each one led by different mixed media artists such as Mary Beth Shaw, Judy wise and Laurie Mika -many more too!)- each with a bunch of photos and stepped out instructions with all kinds of tips to help you you get going. part of the introduction is by Jesse Reno and is all about "personal iconography" and symbols and I am thoroughly intrigued by this and I think will be stuck at this part of the book for awhile because I have been doing this symbol making for as long as I can remember but never put much more thought into it until reading this bit. It has given me a lot to think about and I want to put them all down in my journal in one place to examine more thoughtfully now. I am really enjoying this so far and I want to get a copy to send to my dear SIL as she is an artist but has been in a bit of a slump and I think this would be very inspiring for her. I think we could do some of the exercises together and have a lot of fun! As I get farther into the book I will come back and add to this post and give even more details! I would definitely recommend this book-I think it is designed for artists of any level to find inspiration and there are just tons of eye candy photos through out! Get this book!

7/1/14 Just had to add a note I LOVE THE SPIRAL BINDING!!!!!!!!!! SO thoughtful!!!!IMHO I think all art instruction/inspiration books like this should be bound this way! I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for the priveledge! You don't have to smash your binding open to get it stay flat where you want and then not be able to get it shut again properly like a regular binding! I hope the publishers read this! This binding honors the book!

Are you on the fence about whether or not to choose this book? because you love the art and the amazing color combinations they have? and the subject matter you see?
What is in the book is all about the artist from a very deep and personal perspective- she gives you a view of herself and where her soul lives and what from that pours out of her and onto her canvas. How she thinks and feels and her personal experiences , philosophies and inspiration of how she is, where she is now and what led up to it. My advice if you want to find that same mojo Tracy has- PUT YOUR EXPECTATIONS ON THE SHELF-open the book and open up to exploration. That will help you get there. I think expectations lead to preconceived diappointment and this is so not what this book is about- IT IS ALL ABOUT FREEDOM OF MIND AND LETTING IT FLOW ONTO THE CANVAS. This is not a book about getting you to paint just like Tracy and instantly seeing animals in your work-maybe you will maybe you won't- maybe you'll see other things that will amaze you-its about finding your own way through Tracy's own methods.

As I mentioned before there are 9 exercises from Tracy -many of which are lessons in setting up you background and the many layers you will go throughto get to a fully completed painting. And...... There is one of her beautiful bird paintings covered , an elephant and a deer with amazing antlers- can't wait to try them all! Of course you are encouraged to further look into your own work to see what you might find there - I do like to audition in others techniques like this to find my own way and Tracy encourages this. The book has a bunch of Tracy's artwork included as well for inspirational eyecandy!

I had a chance to read about all the artist Tracy included that have inspired her through the years- many very interesting artists that share techniques, stories and thoughts. Really the book is jam packed with so much!
I will post again when I have gone a little further. I am working on my backgrounds and layers for now-and remember no expectations.

Soooo I decided to sign up for Tracy's Ecourse because I wanted to see her demonstrations and get a feel for her vision and working methods. Wow I am loving this course!!!!! You get to see her move the paints around and she shows how she looks for images in her work and then shows how she brings them out- just amazing!!!!I am on the second week watching one of the videos where she takes an old dried up paint palette sheet and brings out 2 gorgeous birds on branches from it!!!! A must see!!! If you like the book this will just completely round out your vision of the lessons it has!!!
Check out Tracy's blog she will posting some of her student work on there so you get an idea what we are working on. Her videos are amazing!!!

So we just finished up the 6 week ecourse and My mind is blown! Whats in the book is covered AND sooo much more! We had lessons on making these amazing dream catchers and mandalas! Then Tracy demonstrated every week different ways to use and not waste your leftover paint(expensive) on your palette and make incredible art with it! If you haven't tried the Daler Rowney inks-They are insanely amazing-the colors that explode off the the canvas-those ones! and lots of ways to use them! I will get some photos uploaded soon of some of my stuff from the class so you can see!

Was that a story ? Or a long description of a story ?

Guy meets girl,guy roars everyone know that means a true mate has been found.... They go back to her place where they have sex and the end... This isn't really a story,everything is basically told to you in the desc.,except for a rather boring ex scene...
Btw what it it with saying pussy constantly in a "sex" scene?
Personally I find the word know bad tacky and low rent but used in the right context with the right characters it could make a scene kinda edgy and dirty ( in a real good way ;) like when the right kids guy is talking dirty to a woman to shock her or set a scene for example but in a rather backcourt and PG standard type sex scene in this insta -love setting its just redundant and boring.. We know where he is we honestly don't need to be reminded every sentence or every other sentence .. Let's say he was in Paris you wouldn't feel the need to remind us he's in Paris every time he simply crossed a street would you ? I don't need to be reminded he's still in her pussy every time he moves in and out or she clenches him... Geez... Sorry read too make sex scenes like this recently and their redundancy is starting to get on my last nerve..
Story wasn't worth the download even if it was free much less .99 cents more a pamphlet than a story, there's honestly nothing to it ;(
Wanna read something worth it by R.E. Butler read "Slash of Savagery" or "Callie and the Cats" or one of the 1st few Hyena Heat books but skip this, " Nothing here to See Folks" just keep the n movie moving.... I wasted my time don't waste yours...

I like the New World she's brought to us with this new series

R.E. Butler is a favorite author of mine &, generally speaking, does not disappoint. This new series brings us a different shifter world. All supernaturals are 'out' & required to register each time they travel to a new place. Alaric (H) is traveling with his siblings in search of his truemate. He & his brothers signed up with the shifter version of the MMA. His sister, Lia, travels with them. These 4 sibs are the last of the Saber-tooth Tigers. After dreaming about his truemate for a year he FINALLY finds her.

Aubrey, sister to the Master Vampire of the city, is human. She manages the Supernatural Hotel, so she's very familiar with all things Supe related. Strong-willed & intelligent, she has NO problem accepting Alaric as hers.

My only complaint is that there is SO much opportunity here for a full-length story & it wasn't taken advantage of. It may have been the author's way of trying out new material without wasting precious time & energy - which is understandable.But, please, R.E.B., know that I'd LOVE to see this series fully fleshed out. It's a great opportunity for you.

There is no story here. I'd like to get to know about the characters more. There seems to be a issue and the siblings need to have a conversation, then nothing. The end. Wait for the next book. Really?! Maybe I'll read this when it All comes together in the last story. This is not book 1. This is the first chapter.

Moonstone, which has published two collections of short stories and an original novel featuring journalist/supernatural sleuth Carl Kolchak, has reissued the two 1970s novels, in one of which he made his debut. The first, The Night Stalker, chronicles the Las Vegas reporter's first brush with the otherworldly, as his probe into a series of murders convinces him that an actual vampire is responsible. His theorizing, predictably, runs afoul of the local authorities, who seem more concerned with the risk to the tourist trade than solving the crimes. Kolchak's acerbic and cynical first-person narration is engaging, and the action is fast-paced. The second novel, The Night Strangler, which Kolchak creator Rice actually adapted from a Richard Matheson teleplay, is derivative of the first. The venue is now Seattle, but Kolchak, along with most of his supporting cast from Las Vegas, is again butting heads with his superiors and the police as he attempts to track down a killer draining blood from young women. Fans of the cult TV series starring Darren McGavin, as well as its better known successors like "The X-Files," should enjoy the author's blend of horror and humor.

Needed a proofreader

As soon as I heard that the Kolchak novels were back in print I ordered them. I have been a Nightstalker and Kolchak fan since I was a kid and enjoyed both of these novels, but I could only give this edition three stars because of so many typos. It looks like nobody proofread it before it was published. They must have used a spellcheck on it because the mistakes were spelled correctly, they were just the wrong word, or a word was left out. The mistakes were very distracting and I would catch myself looking for the next mistake instead of just enjoying the book. I don't know if I will be willing to buy another book published by Moonstone.

Kolchak is back (Yay!), and he can't proof read (Doh!)!

This edition combines the two early short novels by Jeff Rice, the "Night Stalker" and the "Night Strangler". The book is a worthy read and quite entertaining, even though it may tend to veer off a little too far to describe what Kolchak has for dinner or his cover-up gripes (a common theme for our hero).
That being said, the story of a vampire in 1970 Las Vegas is filled with mood and puts the reader firmly in the time and place of Kolchak's journal, and the action is well written and well paced.
Moonstone books have carved a great niche by reviving great pulpy characters from the past such as the Spider, the Phantom and Carl Kolchak,and their library is worth checking out. My two main complaints about this edition though, are the abundance of typos throughout the book as well as the cover design and finish, which are good but do not match the other Kolchak collections by the same publisher, so this edition will not look as good next to it's cousins on your bookshelf.
