Another winner from Amy Lane

I really, really like how Amy Lane writes. I love that in each of her stories I am introduced to new characters. Characters that I get to know and love over the course of the story. Her characters are not recycled nor are her plots. Long or short, I have finished every one of her books feeling very satisfied.

This book is no exception. I loved Jace and Quent! Thought they were perfect for each other, flaws and all. Loved when tough, alpha male Jace was vulnerable and tender with Quent. The sex scenes were hot. The emotional connection very touching. I enjoyed the clever weaving of poker analogies throughout the story. The guy banter between the Jace and Quent as well as the rest of their poker buddies was humorous as well.

Very good read. Highly recommended.

huh...maybe I'm the only one

So let me preface this by saying I love Amy Lane. I read all of her books and love them. I'm a little confused with this one though. I don't feel like I have any connection to these characters. One reviewer said these characters were introduced in several short stories, which I have not read, so maybe that is the problem. The thing is, our first introduction to these characters is sex. Then all we get is sex and poker. Usually we get some emotional background to the main characters, but I'm missing that here. Mostly what I get is a lot of sex. Kind of odd for her writing. I'm not sure what went wrong here, but hopefully her next book will pick up with a story line instead of just sex.

I'm 'All In' for Quentin and Jace!!!

Thank you, Miss Amy. Many of your groupies (and I think I am the Oldest one) will now stand up tall and applaud, especially if they have kept up with your Novellas featuring Jace and Quentin. We became unraveled at the love these two men have for each other in a series of stories you have written about them. Now everyone's Thank You's are in order to Dreamspinner Press who have realized we want everything published that Amy Lane writes. They have now published Gambling Man-THE NOVEL, and I am so happy.

For those of you who will be new to this story, we meet Jason Spade and Quentin Jackson. Two young men who roomed together in college, roomed together after graduation, and started a business together. Quentin's brown eyes and open smile always looked good to Jace. Now sporting a goatee and a dapper haircut made him even more good looking to Jace. No matter the look, even in college, Quentin was always `home' to Jace.

Jason had lost his parents and then his surrogate family. His surrogate family taught him that life was like a game of poker. Jace kept his game pretty close to the hip, until he realized after eight years of being Quentin's friend and business partner, he wanted to go `all in' and gamble to play his hand to win Quent forever.

This is certainly one of Amy Lanes `feel good' love stories. It is a matter of love and trust and letting yourself go to show the love of your life that you are in it for keeps and in the interim we and they are learning about poker....learning when to hold `em, when to fold `em and when to go for the moon.

The story is sensual, loving. I adored how the two men complemented each other and were yet so different. The warmth of Quent, his way of nurturing the soul of his partner who had been so alone and lost until him. The fun of watching these two young men `come out' to their family, friends and office staff were sad, heartbreaking
and in the next breath, laughable and fun.

I just loved the warmth and humor that was not lost in any situation, the love and trust these two men journeyed, to become the best that both could be. These feelings were not lost to this reader or the wonderful story Ms Lane tells. It is a book you can lean back, relax and enjoy the ride.

I have loved this book since the first day I read it

I have loved this book since the first day I read it. Since my family and I live on a farm we have had lots of occasions to ask, "How goes the work?'. The proper answer, of course, is always "QUACK!" It has come to be a multi-generational (4) inside family joke. One of my granddaughters came upon a group of girls diligently studying the Russian language. Without thinking she asked, "How goes the work, girls?" She heard one girl say,"QUACK!" My granddaughter was so excited about that response that she screamed with delight! She said that was the first time anyone who wasn't a member of her family had known the "correct response" to that question. It is a very simple but lifetime-learning book in spite of its few pages. I am buying a copy of the book today for a man in my adult Sunday School class who, when I asked the class, "How goes the work?" was the only one with the right answer. He is going to get the Farmer Duck award.

I Could Still Hear the Kids Whispering "How Goes the Work?"

even two weeks after I read them the story in their second grade class. Kids love it. It has all the entry points for beginning readers, and adults love it too--for similar reasons. I've had university faculty tell me that it's the Communist Manifesto for kids (remember the centrality of labor, organization, and consciousness), that it's a Trotskyist text (note the role of the Duck at the end) and that it's a classic of feminism (note the multiple voices that had to be considered to fashion the uprising). It's a classic, from whatever interpretation, because it's full of joy, resistance, and hope.

A clean and clear text with pleasant introduction

This comment is about the capstone 2010 edition of Wealth of Nations. I looked at several editions of the Wealth of Nations at the brick and mortar bookstore and text of this book is very nice. The book is a pleasure to hold, and delightful to read; I think it is in relaxing and forthright Arial font. Whatever the font, it is not some ancient-looking typeface like some editions offer.
As for some other commenter's complaint about this text being gutted by "liberal" Bowdon, I apparently lack the sophistication to judge this travesty as I think it's fine. You are welcome to get the original text for $0.99 for your Kindle if you are really that freaked out by a very slightly "modernized" text. I, however; think it is worth your money to buy the paper edition.

How and Why The Wealth of Nations is "one of the most important and influential books ever written."

The title of this review is from the Foreword to this volume, written by Eamonn Butler (Director of the Adam Smith Institute), and continues as follows: The Wealth of Nations "transformed how we think about the nature of economic life, turning it from an ancient to a recognizably modern form." Razeen Sally is Senior Lecturer in International Political Economy at London School of Economics and Co-Director of Eureopean Centre for Political Economy (ECIPE). In the Preface, he observes, " The governing principles of the Smithian economic system is 'natural liberty' (or non-intervention), which allows 'every man to pursue his own interest his own way, upon the liberal plan of equality, liberty and justice.' And as Smith goes on to say, 'All systems of preference or restraint, therefore, being thus completely taken away, the obvious and simple system natural liberty establishes itself of its own accord.'"

Those who have read one or more of the volumes that comprise Tom Butler-Bowdon's "50 Classics" series already know that he possesses superior reasoning and writing skills as well as a relentless curiosity when conducting research on history's greatest thinkers and their major works. For these and other reasons, I cannot think of another person better qualified to provide the introductions to the volumes that comprise a new series, "Capstone Classics."

Unlike so many others, he provides more, much more than a flimsy "briefing" to the given work. In his 32-page Introduction to this edition of The Wealth of Nations, Butler-Bowdon discusses subjects and issues such as these in order to create a context, a frame-of-reference, for Smith's insights:

o Adam Smith and the world in which he lived
o The Wealth of Nations (TWON): Its origins and influences
o The major political and economic issues that it addresses
o The meaning and significance of two terms, "wealth" and "nations," in the book's title
o Contemporary works with which it was compared and contrasted
o Adam Smith's views on social relations
o How a strong market "works"
o Why specialization is "the key to prosperity"
o Smith's views on enlightened self-interest as opposed to society's best interests
o The crucial role of capital
o How and why SMith differentiates (in TWON) a nation's productivity and its system of currency
o The respective roles of price and demand in a market economy
o TWON's "agrarian bias"
o Smith's views on government's proper role
o Correlations between personal wealth and natural wealth
o Smith's views on human rights

There are dozens of others, of course, but hopefully these will provide at least some indication of the scope of Butler-Nowdon's coverage in the 32-page Introduction. As indicated earlier, is to create a context, a frame-of-reference, for Adam Smith's insights. He does so brilliantly and also in each of the other volumes in the "Capstone Classics" series that have been published thus far.

Awesome read

Can't go wrong with Adam Smith! Would have liked the complete book but this copy is awesome. The book it's self is of very high quality, the pages are some if the best I have ever seen. Only complaint is the dust cover is only half the height of the book.

Good book

Great textbook, it was very informative. I used it in my history class and it was very helpful. It skims over some things but is good for its size. It was good for my class and it was a required read. As a college student I couldnt have done class with out this book. I shared it with other students and classmates as well. I like the design on the cover, it is very artsy and creative. It is nice to look at, I understand why my teache chose this specific textbook to use in his class. I used the ebook which is nice and convenient because of technonlgy.

About the Author
Eileen M. Trauth is Professor of Management Information Systems in the College of Business Administration at Northeastern University in Boston. Her research interests are at the intersection of socio-cultural and organizational influences on IT and the IT profession. She has just completed a multi-year investigation of socio-cultural influences on Ireland's information economy. Her book, The Culture of an Information Economy: Influences and Impacts in the Republic of Ireland was published in 2000. Trauth has recently embarked upon a multi-country study of socio-cultural influences on gender in the IT profession. She has also published papers on global informatics, information policy, information management, IT skills, and qualitative research methodology. In addition to editing this book, Dr. Trauth is co-author of Information Literacy: An Introduction to Information Systems. She has taught and conducted research in Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand and the UK, and serves on the editorial boards of several international journals. Dr. Trauth received her Ph.D. in information science from the University of Pittsburgh.

As information technologies have evolved, so too has our understanding of the information systems that employ them. A significant part of this evolving understanding is the role of the human contexts within which information systems are situated. This, in turn, has led to the need for appropriate methods of studying information systems in their context of use. There is a growing consensus that qualitative research methods offer important benefits to the study of information systems. This recognition has spawned the demand for more in-depth discussion of the various types of qualitative IS methods so that researchers can determine ones that are most appropriate for addressing their particular research problems. The objective of Qualitative Research in IS: Issues and Trends is to address this need. Its intent is to assist IS researchers in their efforts to learn about and employ qualitative methods for IS research. A significant portion of established and emerging IS researchers are grappling with the issue of learning about new research methods even as they struggle to keep up with new information technologies. This is especially the case for qualitative methods. Many current IS researchers learned research methodology at a time when quantitative analysis was deemed the only legitimate scientific approach. They are now confronted with the need to teach themselves these new qualitative methods. Others may have developed expertise in the use of one particular qualitative method while in school but would now like to learn about alternative qualitative methods. Finally members of the community of qualitative IS researchers need to hear from each other about the challenges and rewards of employing qualitative methods for information systems research. This book begins by considering trends in the choice of qualitative methods for information systems research. The book then goes on to explore concrete issues that researchers have encountered in the use of a particular qualitative method. It ends by raising issues for the IS profession and suggesting responses. To achieve its objective, this book draws upon the collective expertise of distinguished scholars who employ qualitative methods in their own research. These individuals are widely known for their experience in conducting qualitative research. They include: Richard Baskerville, Dubravka Cecez-Kecmanovic, Heinz Klein, Allen Lee, Enid Mumford, Michael Myers, Steve Sawyer, Ulrike Schultze, Cathy Urquhart and Eleanor Wynn. These authors address issues for individual researchers and for the IS profession from the vantage point of their own experiences. They draw upon their own published work to consider issues that they have encountered and the ways in which they have resolved them.

The audience for this book includes both IS students and IS academics. This book is suitable for use in a doctoral seminar in qualitative research in IS. It will also find an audience among established researchers. Anyone currently engaged in conducting IS research who would like to learn more about employing qualitative methods will be interested in this book.

This book fills a unique space in the IS research literature. Unlike journal articles, which focus on research findings, the focus of these chapters is on the methodology issues themselves. The details of specific research projects provide the backdrop for the discussion of methodological issues. The book also complements existing books on qualitative methodology. Some books address qualitative methodology in general. The subject of the research is not information systems per se, but rather social science in general. A problem that IS researchers often encounter with using such books is the translation of the general ideas into the specific context of IS research. This book is different in that it shows applications of these qualitative methods in a context relevant to IS researchers. Other books are about a single IS research project that employs qualitative methodology. This book is different from these books because it provides the reader with more than one example of the application of qualitative methods to IS research. A third category of books contains collections of chapters that focus on research methodology as applied to information systems research. This book falls into this category. Like other books in this category, it is a collection of chapters by a variety of established authors. However, what makes it distinctive is that the focus of each chapter is methodology rather than the research findings. While the authors discuss the content of their research projects, methodological issues are in the foreground.
